Today's Dominican Word: Fiao – slang to borrow on credit (personal credit). Not too formal to borrow on credit like you do with credit cards. Your personal credit is with many Colmados (Bodegas) owners and local vendors who will allow you to borrow on credit if they know and trust you.
Dominican: Manuel fue al colmado y compro una libra de carne fiao.
English: Manuel went to the supermarket and bought meat on personal credit.
